چکیده
BACKGROUND: Post-coal mine activities must be carried out by considering good management principles, to avoid negative environmental impacts, especially land surface imbalance, destruction of flora and fauna, more importantly, maintain the public health. The post-mining regulations based on priorities health sustainability are designed increase human resource quality for interests regional development. Environmental impacts of Aghdarband coal mine: pollution by heavy metals
Aghdarband coal mine, located in NE of Iran, with annual coal and waste production capacity of about twenty million and six thousand tons, respectively, causes the increase of the concentration of some heavy metals in the soil and surrounded sediments. This paper deals with geochemical distribution and environmental effects of the heavy metals on the sediments around the mine, using geochemical...
متن کاملCoal hydrogenation and environmental health.
Planning of coal hydrogenation processes, such as liquifaction and gasification, requires consideration of public health implications. Commercial plants will require coal quantities greater than or equal to 20,000 tons/day and the large size of these plants calls for careful consideration of the potential health hazards from the wastes and products of such processes. Analysis of pollution poten...
متن کاملEnvironmental health gold mine in New Jersey.
Background: Hematopoietic development in vertebrate embryos results from the sequential contribution of two pools of precursors independently generated. While intra-embryonic precursors harbour the features of hematopoietic stem cells (HSC), precursors formed earlier in the yolk sac (YS) display limited differentiation and self-renewal potentials. The mechanisms leading to the generation of the...
متن کاملCanaries in the coal mine.
Up until 30 years ago, coalminers relied on canaries as warning systems against harmful gases and pollutants underground. The miners listened for birdsong and if the birds fell silent, then they knew there was danger to their health and to take action. Today we have much more sophisticated information and reporting on the quality of air. We know precisely the levels and composition of pollutant...
متن کامل4 Health Effects of Exposure to Respirable Coal Mine Dust
This chapter describes the adverse health effects associated with exposure to respirable coal mine dust. Epidemiological studies of underground and surface coal miners in the United States and other countries are discussed. Also discussed are animal studies that add to our understanding of particle deposition and retention in the lungs and associated disease responses. This chapter emphasizes s...
